Wish You Were Here

Friday, July 29th, 2005
Okay, okay, some of you may not know this yet, but I'm already in Western Australia. For real, and I don't believe it either! A week ago, I was screwed. The soonest flight I was offered was on the 4th of August -- only a day before Curtin would close its doors on me. But then after numerous calls and a three-day migraine, I managed to book a seat to Perth on the 27th of July via Singapore by paying slightly a little more. My mom did a great job by organizing the whole fiasco, even setting up airport officials to escort me around. Those officials were my uncle and aunt who worked at KLIA and Changi… Read More

Peeing on command

Friday, July 22nd, 2005
There I sit in the crowded clinic, after being zapped radioactive by x-rays. I was there for my medical examination required to obtain my student visa. Chest x-ray done, now for the physical... It couldn't be that bad, I assured myself. I cringed at the thought of gigantic needles sucking the Type-O out of me. So as the nurse called my name incorrectly for the second time, I headed into one of the doctors' offices. Mishao Stefani; Miss Mishao Stefani... Wow I might be related to Gwen Stefani. Other than some quick groping and eye checks, I was thankful that they didn't think I looked like a druggie or something, so no blood… Read More

Pyramid Interior
So my mother bumped into one of my old high school classmates in a boring Shah Alam mall recently. Pleasantries exchanged, my mother then told Pei Yee that I was moving off to Australia to study soon, and gave her my cell number. She called the next day, wanting to meet up. After about a week of planning, we met up last Saturday with five other friends who were part of the small group I used to hang out with at school. This would have actually sounded really simple if it weren't for the fact that the preferred language of communication throughout the entire day… Read More

Delayed Flights & Screwpines

Friday, July 15th, 2005
It's been crazy for the past few weeks, to say the least. For the most part, it's the whole process getting the paperwork done for my move to Australia. Waiting for the news of my university results was an absolute agony. Really, the worst part of waiting is waiting itself. That helpless feeling where you're stuck at a point with no option but to sit down and panic. Why panic, you ask? My flight was booked for the 19th, that's why. This whole bonanza has been nothing short of a cause of anxiety and hypertension for my mother, which in turn was constantly telling me to call the university every day to ask about my results. Every day.… Read More

Catching Up

Sunday, July 3rd, 2005
It's only a matter of a couple of weeks that I'll be leaving Malaysia for a good two years. I'm not sure if that fact that started to sink into my system yet, but it has left me scurrying around the Klang Valley trying to catch up with friends. So far, it's been great! The past semester wasn't challenging workload-wise, but it still had deprived me socially. My 'active' social life throughout the semester consisted of nightly MSN conversations and the occasional 1-hour phone calls.
